July and August 2010 Class Schedule
(All classes require a $10 non-refundable deposit, unless otherwise noted. NEW* 10% discount on supplies offered at the time of class (PMC and soldering supplies excepted).
Boy it’s hot! Come in and cool off with some summer classes.
Thurs July 1 (6:30 – 9 pm) POLYMER CLAY: Beginner to Advanced, we work on a different technique every time this class is offered. $25, bring your own clay, pasta machine and tools.
Fri July 2 (2 – 4:30 pm) KNOTTY NECKLACE: A great way to learn the “pearl knotting” technique, Pat Kort will teach this class which results in a beautiful necklace fit for any occasion. This technique can also be used for “floating” necklaces (also called “tin cup”). $35, your thread included. You may bring your own beads, or buy from us for this class.
Sat July 3 (2 – 4:30 pm) KUMIHIMO: Learn this great weaving technique, taught on a portable round “loom”, which has its origins in ancient Japan. You can use all kinds of fiber, plus beads, or just beads to create amazing cording. $35, loom included; beads extra.
Tues July 6 (6:30 – 9 pm) PMC (Precious Metal Clay): This clay based material is embedded with pure silver particles, and is now used by beginners to advanced to create unique silver pendants, beads, findings and so much more. Class cost is $95, and includes 28 gram package of PMC3, firing and finishing: $50 deposit.
Thurs July 8 (6:30 – 9 pm) VIKING KNIT: This technique produces a very thick wire cord that looks great in bracelets and necklaces. Truly invented by the Vikings and used for armor, it’s actually a very simple technique (once you get the loom set up!). $40 class includes the loom you will learn to construct, and copper wire (sterling kit is $25 extra), and finishing techniques. End caps and findings extra.
Sat July 10 (2 – 4:30 pm) SOLDERING WITH YVONNE: Learn to use the torch and solder silver (and more!) in this great class with Yvonne D’Angelico. This month, learn easy stone-setting. Yvonne’s designs are very trendy, and she wants everyone to leave class with a beautifully finished piece and new confidence to create more of your own work. $55 class fee, supplies extra (usually no more than $20).
Tues July 13 (6:30 – 9 pm) FREE-FORM WIRE WRAP: Wonderful class for beginners and beyond in wire-work. We will use found objects that you bring to class (beach glass, pebbles, etc.) that have no holes – first secure them with the wire, then embellish and turn them into wearable art objects. We will also wrap a large bead with a more formal wrap, so you learn multiple techniques and get familiar with the appropriate tools. $40, supplies included.
Weds July 14 (11 am – 1:30 pm) SOLDERING WITH ELS: Learn to use the torch and solder a silver bezel for a ring or pendant in this class. You will choose a small flat-backed stone (“cabochon”) to set in your bezel, and learn finishing techniques as well. $55, plus small materials fee.
Thurs July 15 (6:30 – 9 pm) TORCH ENAMELING ON COPPER: Create fun jewelry components with copper stampings, glass powders and the kiln. These pieces can be made up quickly, and your imagination is the only limit! $55, supplies included.
Sat July 17 (2 – 4:30 pm) ENAMELING WITH ELS: Formally trained in many complex enameling techniques, Els Heber will work with you on the projects you want. Cloisonne, Sgraffito and more…this class begins with copper stampings and basic sifting techniques. You will complete a pendant, and the cost is $55 plus a $5 kit fee.
Tues July 20 (6:30 – 9 pm) BEADING BASICS: Learn all the basics of making necklaces, bracelets and earrings in this fun class. You will learn two techniques: how to attach a clasp to a bracelet/necklace, and how to do the “hangman’s noose” wire wrap technique for earrings. You will leave class with a finished pair of earrings and a bracelet! $15 fee, plus supplies.
Thurs July 22 (6:30 – 9 pm) STAINED GLASS CHARMS: These personalized treasures are all the rage, and Chris Gorman will help you design a beautiful pendant your first time out! Bring some tiny photos of your loved ones, and we’ll provide the rest. $55 class fee, bring your own soldering iron please!
Fri July 23 (2 – 4:30 pm) BELLISSIMO BEADS: Wow! These beaded beads can stand alone or be combined with others for the most stunning effect. Pat Kort will teach you this right angle weave technique to create one-of-a-kind treasures. Perfect for gifts! $35 class fee, materials extra.
Tues July 27 (6:30 – 9 pm) POLYMER CLAY: From Beginner to Advanced, come join us for this class! The things you can do with this medium are endless, so bring your ideas (and your pasta machine) and we’ll make something wonderful. $30 class fee.
Weds July 28 (11 am – 1:30 pm) SOLDERING WITH ELS: Learn to use the torch and solder a silver bezel for a ring or pendant in this class. You will choose a small flat-backed stone (“cabochon”) to set in your bezel, and learn finishing techniques as well. $55, plus small materials fee.
Thurs July 29 (6:30 – 9 pm) SOLDERING WITH YVONNE: We’re trying a night class, and continuing to explore the wonders of design with simple soldering techniques. Many samples available here at the shop, come in and see what you can do with a torch and some ingenuity. $55, plus small materials fee.
Sat July 31 (2 – 4:30 pm) GLASS FUSING: Chris Gorman is teaching this class, in which you will learn glass cutting technique, and combine dichroic and colored glass to make your own stunning pendants. $55 class fee, plus $10 kit fee.
Tues August 3 (6:30 – 9 pm) PMC: This exciting medium has so much potential – it now comes in Silver, Copper, Bronze and Steel! Tonight we will work with Silver (PMC3) and learn how to work with the clay to make a very unique pendant. $95 class fee, materials and finishing included.
Thurs Aug 5 (6:30 – 9 pm) COLD SHOP SILVER-SMITHING: We will explore the addictive world of hammering, doming and stamping metal to create very unique pendants, jewelry components and findings. We sell all the supplies here in the shop so you can continue your habit at home…$35 class fee includes supplies.
Fri Aug 6 (2 – 4:30 pm) BEAD AROUND A CABOCHON: Pat Kort will teach you how to design and stitch a wonderful bracelet of your own, that is truly a knock-out. Great class for those who love to sew, and you can bring your own bead collection to complement the focal piece. $40 class fee, materials included.
Sat Aug 7 (2 – 4:30 pm) CHAIN MAILLE: Byzantine chain is such a classic, you can’t go wrong learning this versatile technique. You will also learn how to make your own jump rings. $35 class fee, plus wire kit fee of $10 (copper) or $30 (silver.)
Tues Aug 10 (6:30 – 9 pm) NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN PURSE/NECKLACE: Starting with a little fabric purse, we will do some bead embroidery to embellish it, then fashion a great strap to complete it. You can fit your essentials in it for a night on the town – cell phone, credit card, cash and lip-stick! Handy AND beautiful, you will love it…$40 class fee, includes fabric purse; beads extra (you may bring your own).

Thurs Aug 12 (6:30 – 9 pm) MARLA FRANKENBURG TEACHES INTRICATE CANING IN POLYMER CLAY: We’re crossing our fingers that Marla will be able to return to teach more of her amazing flower, leaf and nature cane work. If you are at all hooked on polymer clay, Marla will teach you many tips and tricks that will truly advance your skills. $50 per session, we’re hoping for additional sessions on Friday night, Aug 13, and Saturday (Aug 14) day. Call if you want to be on the list, and we’ll touch base with you as her plans firm up.
Tues Aug 17 (6:30 – 9 pm) CRAZY EMBROIDERED PURSE: We are back into fiber, and combining fabric with beads is just inevitable! Our sample is covered with everything but the kitchen sink…great way to incorporate all those little “found” items you’ve been saving and don’t know why. You will learn many embroidery stitches, and can bring your own flosses, threads, ribbons and more to sew with. Also your button stash, beads…and we’ll swap and trade with each other! Happy Birthday, Wendy! $30 class fee, materials extra…and bring your own stuff!!!
Thurs Aug 19 (6:30 – 9 pm) FREE FORM WIRE WRAP: This class is for you if you’ve been wanting to use that odd shell you found on the beach last vacation…we’ll take round, square and half-round wires and create artistic “cages” for your memento so it can be worn on a necklace. Bring your own wire-working tools (round nose, chain nose, flat nose pliers and flush wire cutter) or buy them here! $25 + $15 wire kit fee.
Fri Aug 20 (2 – 4:30 pm) PEYOTE NEEDLE CASE: This easy bead-weaving stitch can transform an ordinary needle case into an extraordinary work of art – plus hide your needles in a safe place! Pat Kort will teach this class, and provide her exceptional design expertise and guidance. $35 class fee, beads extra.

We’ll continue to work on beautiful polymer clay pieces using her amazing techniques…come and join us. $30 class fee.

Thurs Aug 26 (6:30 – 9 pm) DARE TO DREMEL: If you have a Dremel tool, or one similar, and want to learn all the ways you can use it, come to this class! We will work on drilling holes in glass and shells, and so much more. $35 class fee, includes your supplies; you must bring your own Dremel tool.
