Chris Gorman is a glass and jewelry artist, currently living in sunny Florida. She has been creating art for as long as she can remember. Her mother told her she might as well have been born with a pair of scissors in her hand instead of a golden spoon. Her mother sewed clothing and Chris, at the age of three decided to help by cutting up one of her sewing projects! She later learned to cut hair and glass, a much better use of scissors. She majored in art throughout school and learned drawing, photography, pottery, print making, painting, jewelry, and sculpture. As a young adult, she developed an interest in glass, and learned how to work in stained glass. While attending a glass conference in Orlando, Florida in 2000, she was introduced to glass bead making. She was hooked from the second she saw glass being melted using a torch. She realized that the stained glass she had been using could take on a whole new life by melting and sculpting it into three dimensional beads and objects d’art. She purchased a torch at the conference and a kiln shortly thereafter to anneal the beads in (temperature controlled cooling of beads to stabilize molecular structure). What else might the kiln could be used for? Enameling, precious metal clay, glass fusing and pottery! Chris took classes in those four areas, traveling as far as Corning New York and Seattle, Washington. She became a certified instructor for Art Clay Silver. Chris makes eclectic jewelry using all of the skills she has learned and continues to pursue new techniques. Her jewelry and beads are available for sale at the bead chick in St. Augustine, Florida, where she regularly teaches classes in glass fusing and glass bead making.
